Chinese Dance Class with Anne Ma
On a rainy Saturday in March thirty small children in traditional Chinese costume gathered at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center to learn Chinese folk dance from “Miss Annie;” Anne Ma.
Ms. Anne Ma has been teaching Chinese dance to children, teenagers, and adults since 1994. She is a graduate of Taiwan College with a degree in Dance. In both Taiwan and the U.S., Anne has won numerous dance competitions and has extensive experience in the teaching and choreography of Chinese dance. Presently, she is the Artistic Director of Dance Impressions and Lan Ling Dance Studio in Walnut. Anne teaches at the Chinese Student Association at the University of California of Irvine, and has also been a performer for Disneyland since 1997.
Miss Annie and her two assistants taught their young students “The Firecracker Dance” during the 45 minute session, followed by a short snack break and finally the performance! Parents who had anxiously huddled in the hallways during rehearsal were allowed into the studio to video and photograph their angels as they exhibited a graceful display of dance. Some of the older students partnered with the younger ones to help keep them in step. The results were very impressive! Most importantly all the participants had a fun learning experience!
We offer many thanks to FCC-Socal parents Barbara Grattan, who handled the initial set up for the class, and Lauren Rednour who took over the reins and managed the event on-site. Also thanks to the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center for their assistance. The center offers many classes through the Irvine Chinese School community programs that may be of interest to FCC-Socal families. For a schedule of children’s classes click here.
