Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival
The Annual FCC-SoCal Heritage Festival is held in the spring to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (May) and the youth of FCC-SoCal. The event begins with the Chinese Zodiac Animal Parade, with children and guests marching behind their “animal” banner and winding their way through the event grounds to the sounds of gongs and cymbals – with little lion dancers tagging along.
In the afternoon, the children and youth enjoy participating in an array of Asian cultural classes, both traditional and contemporary. With the opportunity to sample four classes, the children have fun trying their hands at a variety of acitivities. The activities change form year to year but often include brush painting, calligraphy, knot-typing, origami, kung fu and Chinese dance and acrobatics. In our last event, our tweens and teens also delighted in Asian hair and make-up lessons and grooming tips. Parents enjoy the instruction or just visit with old friends and make some new ones over lunch and refreshments. Although the children must be four years old to take classes, our youngest members enjoy their time on the playground and at the craft tables.
Event information and registration materials are posted and emailed to FCC-SoCal members after the Chinese New Year season. For more information, contact email@example.com.
