FCC-SoCal would like to honor Michelle Vu for graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles! During her 4-year span at UCLA, Michelle partook in the China Care Bruins (CCB), China Care Club. Michelle served as the Finance Coordinator, Finance Director and Co-Executive Director of CCB, which she calls the most important experience of her college career.
Michelle plans to become a pediatrician and will be spending the next couple of years preparing for medical school. As a physician, she hopes to serve children in low-income communities as well as those with developmental disabilities.
In her free time, Michelle likes to play the piano, get lost in a book, bake with her family, or get a good workout in. She also loves to travel and spend time in nature. Her goals include exploring all 62 U.S. National Parks and eating her way through Europe!
Congratulations, Michelle! We're so excited to see where you'll go from here and what the future holds.
We've included a paragraph written by Michelle herself, below.
"My name is Michelle Vu, and I am so excited to be an alum of UCLA!
While my four years at UCLA have been filled with many great memories, my favorite ones were with China Care Bruins. CCB has been the most important experience of my college career because it was the first organization that I joined when entering UCLA four years ago, and the joy I've received from this organization will remain with me forever. I am honored to have served as Finance Coordinator, Finance Director, and, finally, Co-Executive Director (alongside Lisa Huang) throughout the past few years. Working alongside like-minded individuals in serving our mission to build lasting relationships with the adoptee community was an integral part of my journey in CCB and in college, and I treasure the lasting friendships I have made with my fellow Bruins. More importantly, I cherish my relationship with my little buddy, Natalie, and her family. I am so lucky to have been able to grow alongside Natalie for the past four years and to embrace all that she's taught me along the way! Finally, none of my experiences in CCB would have been possible without the incredibly supportive community I've found in the families of our mentees. The continuous support we've received from Marie (our parent liaison) and all of the amazing parents have always inspired me to work hard to provide a vibrant and compassionate environment for our mentees.
I hope to become a pediatrician in the future, and I will spend the next couple of years preparing for medical school. As a physician, I hope to serve children in low-income communities as well as those with developmental disabilities.
In my free time, I like to play the piano, get lost in a book, bake with my family, or get a good workout in. I also love traveling and spending time in nature--my goals include exploring all 62 U.S. National Parks and eating my way through Europe!
Although I am graduating this year, I will never forget the second family I’ve found in CCB. Thank you to my 2019-2020 staff members, Marie, the Katz family, and everyone else who made CCB feel like home."
